t the heart of The Action Project is the transformative journey of Joseph and Jenny, whose personal struggles have shaped a path of hope and redemption. Their experiences lay the foundation for our mission and guide our vision, making our project more than just a program—it’s a testament to the power of second chances.

Joseph’s life in the streets of Los Angeles was marred by drug addiction and cycles of crime and incarceration. His pivotal moment came on March 3, 2008, following his last arrest. From that day, Joseph embarked on a path of recovery and community service, transforming over sixteen years into a beacon of hope and a role model for others facing similar challenges.

Jenny’s story began in Ventura County, where addiction and abusive relationships led her to despair. Her life took a hopeful turn with the companionship of a small chihuahua and a life-changing decision by a judge that gave her a second chance. Since embracing recovery in 2010, Jenny has been dedicated to supporting disadvantaged youth and their families, guiding them toward securing the futures they envision.

Joseph- grew up in Los Angeles, and at a young age battled with the dangers of drug addiction, street life, and criminal behaviors. Ultimately, his life journey led him to the juvenile justice system, which meant he kept going in and out of prison. On March 3rd, 2008 – Joseph was arrested for the very last time because after that he decided to bring a change into his life. He went in for a drug treatment program, after which got himself involved in recovery based communities of hope and healing, that tracked him on his path of helping people. Now, it’s been over 13 years since Joseph is continuously working in the nonprofit and substance use field, with the aim of helping those in need.

Together, Joseph and Jenny have created The Action Project out of a current necessity in their lives as parents and co-parents  to 11 and 12-year-old boys. Recognizing a gap in support for young adolescents, particularly those under 15, they are motivated to create a space that welcomes all ages. Many youth programs do not cater to 11 and 12-year-olds, who are at a critical stage of development and highly susceptible to the pressures of addiction, internet influences, and social media.

Thus, batting the earlier challenges of life made us understand the importance to create a community where those with personnel lived experience can impact the lives of those suffering from the challenges of life. This is where the idea of “The Action Project” came into being. Unlike, other great programs, “The Action Project” aims to bridge gaps between under served people and available resources, in a quick turnaround through a fast referral system.
